Artifact:
Shared Vision
Reflection:
The artifact for Standard 1.1: Shared Vision is the Shared Vision that I created involved my current administrators and several members of the Westside Elementary Staff. While they did help create the shared vision, the work in the artifact was completed by me.
The shared vision of a school is the driving force for change. The development of the shared vision for my school was somewhat of a tall order. During the development of the Shared vision, we decided to review the School Improvement plan (SIP) When reviewing the SIP, there was little mention of technology. In reality the school is full of technology and technology use. In my opinion there was a huge misalignment between the SIP and reality. As I worked on creating the survey for informing the shared vision, I keyed in on some areas that desperately needed to be addressed. I used the shared vision paper as a vehicle for change. The shared vision was fully implemented when school started back in August 2016. So, far the implementation has gone smoothly and we have stayed the course that we set fourth when creating the vision.
While creating the Shared Vision, I had an opportunity to really look at the way things have been going at my current school. I learned that direction and guidance can be the vehicle for change. The Shared Vision allowed my school to get clear direction. I wish I would have had a little more time to complete this project. Due to this class being completed during the summer, I did not have as much time as Fall or Spring classes would to gather information, meet with staff members and create the shared vision. I do feel the vision we created serves a purpose and is effective, however more time would have been helpful.
My current administrators and the others involved in creating the shared vision are excited about what we created, and so am I. It has already and will continue to impact staff development, faculty development, and student learning. For the first time in a while, my school has a destination. I helped pave the way for change. A roadmap was created via the shared vision. I am proud to be a part of the change that is taking place at my school. The shared vision allowed so many conversations to take place that otherwise likely would not have. I am excited to see where this shared vision takes my school.
