Artifact:
Technology Grant Proposal
Reflection:Part of our shared vision at Westside Elementary School is for parents to be more involved. The grant proposal I created is for a Parent Involvement Center that would allow for parents to feel welcome in the building, be able to learn about technology, and have a place to find resources. The grant proposal was developed for a grant that is offered by Lowe's. The grant, if awarded, would give funding for the parent center and all of the resources needed for it to be successful. The grant application gave me the opportunity to see what all research needs to go into writing for funding.
I researched and recommended a funding source for a parent involvement center. I researched different grants that were available for schools that would be applicable for a Parent Involvement Center. When creating our shared vision for the school, something the team decided we would need to implement is a Parent Involvement Center. Implementation of the shared vision of the school will require several pieces to come into place. One of those pieces is a Parent Involvement Center. The strategy that I recommended to use is to write a grant proposal to receive the funding in order to see full implementation of the shared vision. The team agreed with and approved the grant proposal as it was written.
While completing the artifact I learned about the many grant opportunities that are available. I had heard about people writing grants for things they needed in their classroom/school. This experience gave me the opportunity to see firsthand what types of grants are available and how to begin the process of writing one. If I had this to do over again, I would look into other grants that would provide the same resource. I still have not been able to submit this grant proposal because of the timeline set forth by the grant provider. I would have looked for another provider that would accept the proposal sooner.
This artifact will impact school improvement once it is submitted and approved to Lowe’s. The impact can be assessed through parent involvement and the school climate survey that is completed yearly.
