Artifact:
Engaged Learning Project
Reflection:
This artifact is the Engaged Learning Project was created in ITEC 7400. Students who participated in this project have a wide variety of skill and ability levels. I created this artifact as documentation of a culminating activity for myself and my students.
This artifact was used to model and facilitate research-based, learner-centered strategies. The research-based, learner-centered strategy that was used was the LoTi framework. The LoTi framework measures lessons based on a LoTi level. This particular lesson was rated a level 5 out of 6 on the LoTi scale. This framework puts students learning at the center and pushes teachers to reach to the next level. The Engaged Learning Project was completed with students with disabilities, students with of different races, and ethnicities. It was very successful in helping all student learn. The project was made accessible through the use of accessibility features on the iPad. Doing so allowed all students to fully participate within their group. Technology allowed the students diversities to be put to the side. It allowed the diverse needs of students to be met.
This artifact was the first time I was introduced to LoTi levels. This experience taught me how technology in the classroom could be so much more than what I thought it was. I had only seen people use technology to substitute what they were already doing. I had not seen it used to truly transform learning. This project opened my eyes to what could be done with technology. If I had this to do over, I would give more time for the project to be completed. Students could have really taken another week or so and expanded their knowledge base of recycling and what it can do in the world. This project really got the students thinking about recycling in a different way.
This artifact impacted student learning. It can be assessed through the students knowledge, understanding, and curiosity about recycling. Those students are have now started a recycling team at our school since the end of that project. They have moved past the requirements of the standard and put the knowledge into action.
