Artifact:
Needs Assessment
Reflection: This artifact is my needs assessments. The needs assessment was conducted on a colleague and someone who I consider to be a friend. It was created to determine the needs that a teacher had within her classroom. This artifact was created in the Summer of 2016.
I conducted a needs assessment on a colleague to determine her strengths and weaknesses used the needs assessment to inform her content and delivery of technology-based professional learning. The needs assessment completed used two surveys and helped to determine her LoTI level and her attitudes toward using technology. This experience helped me to be able to pin point exactly where teachers need help and how to help them. I gained valuable knowledge that I would not have otherwise gained. I intend to use the skills that were acquired through completing this assignment to become a successful technology coach.
The skills gained will help me in my day to day role as a technology coach. I will be able to confidently coach other teachers because of this experience. The hardest part of completing the needs assessment was viewing my colleague as someone I could coach. The person I coached and I are friends. It was a little difficult to get past that at first. At least the communication part was already in place, so that helped tremendously. My favorite thing was co-teaching a lesson with her. I really enjoyed being able to share my knowledge with her and see her grow professionally. I am very encouraged about the progress she made toward using more student-centered learning strategies. If I had this experience to do over again, I would have liked to have had more time to complete this project. Since this was a Summer course I had to really rush through everything.
The knowledge gained through this artifact will impact student learning, and professional development. The impact can be assessed by observing the teacher who I coached and seeing the difference in her teaching style. Also, students are benefiting and learning differently in her class because she is using the technology techniques and strategies, and the digital tools and resources she learned about after reviewing the needs assessment.
