Vision
Students of today are accustomed to having technology at their fingertips all of the time. As educators we have an opportunity that no other generation of educators has ever had before us. Technology is a way to bridge the gap between student ability and achievement. Students are willing to use technology to learn about things they are interested in, learn a new skill by watching videos or walking through a tutorial, and communicating with others. They can also use technology in education to reach levels that we could have only dreamed of. Technology use in the classroom looks different for each teacher. Some teachers use technology to teach with, others use technology as a motivator. One things is for sure, students are more engaged in learning when technology is involved.
Some teachers are very skeptical about using technology in the classroom and allowing students to use technology in the classroom. I believe that if teachers truly embrace technology, we can transform learning. Many teachers get so stuck on how students can abuse technology that they limit what it can do. I believe if educators from administrators to teachers really embrace technology we can unlock potential for students. As educators we need to use research-based best practices in the classroom. If we teach students how to use technology and how to learn with technology, they can do virtually anything. We are preparing students for jobs that have not been created yet.
As a technology leader at my school, it is very important for me to stay up to date on current and up and coming technology trends inside and outside of education. It is also vital that I help others become more technologically minded so that they can effectively use technology within their classroom as well. My school has technology available and ready to use. All teachers have received some degree of training to work with the available technology. It is my desire to help teachers in areas where they feel weak and to enrich other areas.
