2.6 Instructional Design
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of research-based best practices in instructional design when designing and developing digital tools, resources, and technology-enhanced learning experiences. (PSC 2.6/ISTE 2f)
Artifact:
Online Learning Experience
Reflection:
The Online Learning Experience artifact was created in ITEC 7481. By using a blended model in my classroom, I effectively designed and developed digital tools and resources.
This artifact allowed me to design and implement an online unit based on research-based best practices in instructional design. I used the ADDIE design principles to design my online unit. I also took Universal Design Principles into consideration to make the unit accessible for all. Research-based best practices for student learning were effectively used while designing the unit. I was able model and facilitate the use of research-based best practices such as reviewing previous skills, allowing students to practice after each step is learned, asking questions to check and extend learning, and providing models of the materials.
While working on this document, I had the opportunity to put design principles that I had been learning about into action. If I had this to do over again, I would have taken a little more time on the design of the unit upfront. I did not put as much thought into some aspects as I should have. I ended up have to go in a few days into my unit and re-work a good bit of the design ideas so that they would line up with ADDIE and Universal Design Principles.
This artifact impacted student learning. It can be assessed through the students knowledge, understanding, and curiosity about recycling. Those students are have now started a recycling team at our school since the end of that project. They have moved past the requirements of the standard and put the knowledge into action.
