EDL 7100 was a difficult class for me. Between having to work closely and provide feedback to my current administrator who is not always open to criticism, to putting in hours on the leadership philosophy project and finding out I had done it incorrectly, it is safe to say that this class absolutely challenged me. I am thankful that I decided to complete it though. I have learned so much about leadership and how to be a better leader. Even if I do not end up being an administrator, I absolutely gained some invaluable skills that will benefit me for the rest of my life.
One of the most significant experiences I had was completing the Leadership Evaluation early on in the course. Once I completed it, my administrator requested to see it and discuss it with me. This actually opened a huge door of communication and allowed me the opportunity to share some of my ideas and suggestions. Much to my surprise the administrator was very receptive and has even put into place one of the suggestions I had. Without this class, I would not have had that opportunity.
Prior to this class, I had no idea how much work goes in to a School Improvement Plan (SIP). I had the opportunity to analyze and make recommendations to my current SIP at the school I work at. Again, much to my surprise, the administrator was very receptive to my ideas and recommendations. I will have the opportunity to help with this years SIP.
